In a recent article that is posted on our website, we discussed the strong prevalence of brain injuries among bicycle accident victims. From a child who falls off a bike and hits his or her head on the curb to an adult cyclist who is riding down the street and is hit by a car, anyone who rides a bicycle is at risk of suffering a brain injury.
On any given day throughout the San Diego area, bicyclists can be seen traveling along the streets, in parks and along trails. While the many health and environmental benefits of biking are widely reported on, bikers in some areas are coming under increased scrutiny for violating traffic laws and putting themselves, pedestrians and even drivers and passengers in danger.
Bicycle accidents can occur for a number of reasons, including the negligence of motor vehicle drivers, poor weather conditions, and poor roadway design. Such accidents can and do also occur at times because of the negligence of the cyclist. Unfortunately, some cyclists do not realize that they are bound by rules of the road just like drivers. Or, if they do realize, they just don’t find those rules convenient enough to follow them.
Mild temperatures allow San Diego area residents to enjoy biking year-round. Biking is not only a great form of exercise, but also a practical and environmentally-friendly mode of transportation. However, when it comes to sharing the road with cars and motor vehicles, biking can also be extremely dangerous.
