A two-vehicle accident claimed the life of one. Several others were injured in the accident and some of the victims were children. It appears that the passenger vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and was struck by a truck. An ongoing investigation may reveal further details about what caused the accident.
Details of the fatal accident
According to California Highway Patrol, the passenger vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, veered into oncoming traffic in front of a box truck. The driver of the truck apparently could not avoid colliding with the van. After the impact, the van spun out of control and struck a collapsible guard rail. The driver of the truck escaped with no injuries, and he was cooperative with police during the initial investigation.
The van was carrying the driver and six passengers. One of the passengers was declared dead at the scene. Several others, including children, had to be extricated from the vehicle. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators aren’t sure what caused the van driver to veer into the left lane, but alcohol is not expected to be a contributing factor to the accident.
