Pedestrian suffers severe injuries in suspected DUI crash

If you or someone you love is hit by a car, the only thing that most people would want is for the driver to stop and stay at the scene. If they can, they should render aid and support the victim until help arrives.

Sadly, that isn't always what happens. Take, for example, a case where a man hit and badly injured a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road.

The pedestrian was heading east on Grossmont Center in La Mesa when a vehicle collided with him. He allegedly entered the intersection with a "Do Not Walk" signal, but he was inside a crosswalk. His decision to enter at the wrong time put him in the wrong place at the wrong time, because shortly after he entered the roadway, a driver ran a red light and hit him.

The victim in this case, approximately 50 years old, had to be taken to the hospital for serious injuries including a fractured hip and fractured lower right leg. The driver, a 41-year-old man, was arrested. The police believe that he was driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. The driver had prior alcohol- and drug-related arrests, according to the authorities.

Accidents like this have multiple mistakes that led up to them, but the reality is that a driver who is influence by alcohol or drugs is always a risk to those around them. If you're hit by someone who is on drugs or who has been drinking, you should consider pursuing a claim against them for their actions.
