Cyclist in San Diego seriously injured in hit-and-run crash

The roads in California can get busy, with traffic flowing in every direction. In addition to heavy traffic, motorists are not the only ones utilizing roadways for travel. Pedestrians and cyclists rely on roads, crosswalks and sidewalks to get to and from their destinations. Because they are also traveling where motorists are operating motor vehicles, it is always imperative for everyone to be aware of one another. When a motorist fails to remain attentive and cautious, this could result in a serious and even fatal collision.

According to recent reports, a hit-and-run bicycle accident occurred in San Diego. The 64-year-old cyclist was either walking or riding his bike in the northbound bike lane of Nimitz Boulevard when a white Nissan Versa also traveling north sideswiped the cyclist.

Reports indicated that the driver did not stop following the crash and another motorists traveling on the roadway stopped to provide assistance to the struck cyclist. The bicyclist was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Preliminary reports indicated that the cyclist suffered an open pelvic fracture and other major injuries. Investigation is still ongoing, and no other details have been reported at this time.

A hit-and-run collision is a difficult situation to be in, but it is not a situation that offers no options or hope. A victim of such a crash could speak to a legal professional, as this could help them understand their legal options once investigation is complete. Exploring a civil lawsuit, like a personal injury action, could help a victim prepare to take immediate action once a hit-and-run driver is located and held accountable for the crash.
