What are the most common workplace injuries for women?

Workers in California and elsewhere must interact with their workplace environment. Whether it is an office, vehicle, factory or a construction site, this means dealing with the factors and people within the workplace. For many, this means very little to them, as it does not cause any disruptions. However, for some, this means safety issues that could result in workplace injuries.

What are the most common workplace injuries for women? The answer to this question may come as a surprise. Based on current data, assaults are considered to be the most common cause of workplace injuries among women. It was found that 70% of the nonfatal assault-related injuries that result in days missed from work are impacted by other safety issues.

In 2017, there were a total of 12,820 women that suffered assault-elated injuries in the workplace. This number represents a 60% increase since 2011. In comparison, there were a total of 5,530 men that suffered such injuries that same year. This type of work injury is not the only concern for females in the workplace. Other workplace injuries that disproportionately impact women include accidental injuries caused by another party, falls occurring on the same level and ergonomic issues, which include issues related to repetitive motion.

Female or male, suffering a workplace injury can be overwhelming and emotional. One's ability to carryon his or her role in the workplace could be compromised, as he or she will need to take time off to recover from the injury. This unfortunately could result in financial harm. This is where workers' compensation could be beneficial. These funds could be used to address medical bills, rehabilitation and lost wages.
