Drunk driver rear-ends Lyft, killing one and injuring three

Whether one is the driver or a passenger, being an occupant of a motor vehicle holds many risks. Even when a motorist is driving safely and following the rules of the road, this does not guard them from a negligent driver sharing the road with them. No matter the time of day or where a Californian is traveling, a drunk driver could be traveling on the road and collide with another motorist. This could have serious and even fatal results.

According to recent reports, a fatal crash occurred on a San Diego freeway. The crash involved two vehicles, one of them a Lyft car traveling with three rideshare passengers. Based on preliminary investigation, the crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of State Route 163 when a drunk driver rear-ended a car operated by a Lyft driver.

It was reported that the driver of a Lexus collided with a Mazda, which was the Lyft vehicle, causing both vehicles to drift off of the freeway and land in a ditch off of the shoulder of the freeway. Authorities reported that the collision caused one passenger of the Mazda to be ejected. The three remaining occupants were seriously injured in the crash.

The driver of the Lexus suffered serious injuries in the crash as well. One of the passengers in the Lyft car suffered fatal injuries and was report dead at the scene. Investigation is still ongoing, but authorities reported that the 21-year-old female driver of the Lexus is suspected of driving under the influence.

Coping with the loss of a loved one is not easy. This is especially true in matters where a person is suddenly killed by a drunk driver. Family members are often left with many questions, one of them being what can be done to overcome the losses and damages experienced. A wrongful death action can be very beneficial. It can provide surviving loved ones with compensation to address medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages, loss of companionship and other related losses.
