Do more accidents occur over the holidays in California?

The hustle and the bustle of the holiday season can keep us busy. And any motorist in California or elsewhere can confirm that they see an increase in traffic during this time. Whether it is normal traffic going to and from work, those traveling to a holiday party or individuals traveling to spend time with friends and family, the holiday season is filled with many reasons to travel by motor vehicle. The issue with this is that with more vehicles come more risks, which could result in an increased amount of car accidents.

Do more accidents occur over the holidays in California? Based on data collected by an insurance company, December 15 was determined to be the most dangerous day of the year for drivers in California. This was based on information collected from claims filed in the past four years. It was found that there was an increase in accidents by 23 percent on this day when compared to the average on any other day of the year.

On an average day, California can see roughly 435 accidents. However, on December 15, that rate increases to around 539. When looking at the top five worst days for car accident in the state of California, all five of them are dates occurring between September and February. The three culprits for the higher rate of accidents include distracted driving, driving unsafely during inclement weather and drinking and driving.

Following a car accident, a victim should take the time to fully understand the situation. This means collecting evidence, talking to witnesses and even hiring an expert that can help explain how the accident happened. This can help establish liability, and through a personal injury action, a victim could recover compensation.
