Electrocution and construction worker accidents

Construction projects are vital to society. It means that houses, building, roads and other structures are built in California and elsewhere. It also helps employ many skilled workers. While construction workers are trained to complete their work tasks, construction sites can be very dangerous. In fact, there are many risks faced by construction workers, causing them to face the potential of serious and even fatal construction work site accidents.

There are many dangers one might think of when it comes to construction work. While falling is likely to come to mind, one serious and fatal risk is electrocution. Many construction workers work with electrical wires, which carries with them the risk of being electrocuted.

When looking at data from 2003 to 2016 and the trend that is seen in this data, it was found that there was a 15 percent increase in electrical fatalities from 2015 to 2016. With regards to where electrocution fatalities occurred in the U.S., 55 percent occurred in the construction industry. It was also found that younger construction workers were 2.3 times more likely to experience fatalities from electrocution when compared to experienced workers.

With regards to electrical injuries, it was found that the rate of non-fatal electrical injuries dropped one-third from 2015 to 2016. In 2016, 420 electrical injuries occurred in the construction industry. When a construction worker experienced an electrical injury, the median number of days one was away from work to recover form this injury was 5 days.

When a worker is injured or killed because of electrocution of a construction work site, it is important to consider the rights afforded in this matter. It is possible for injured workers of the loved ones of the deceased worker to seek workers' compensation benefits. This could help offset the losses and damages experienced as a result of the incident.
