What are the many symptoms of whiplash?

As you know, any time you are part of a motor vehicle accident, there is a chance that you could suffer a serious injury.

If your vehicle is struck from behind, especially when you don't have time to prepare, the end result could be whiplash (and the many injuries that come along with it).

Whiplash is the result of your neck and back being snapped forward and backwards, often as the result of a rear-end collision.

It's important to understand the most common symptoms of whiplash, as you don't want to overlook the importance of treatment. Here are some of the symptoms to watch for:

  • Neck pain that is often accompanied by stiffness
  • Loss of range of motion
  • Worsening of neck pain with movement
  • Neck and upper back that is tender to the touch
  • Headaches, typically at the base of the skull
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue

As if these symptoms are not serious enough, there are others that can come into play. These are not as common, but they are every bit as painful and dangerous:

  • Ringing in the ears
  • Blurred vision
  • Irritability
  • Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Depression
  • Memory problems

Whether or not you see a doctor is up to you, but it's important to proceed with caution. Even if you think your whiplash symptoms will go away in time, you never know exactly what is happening in your body until you receive a professional medical opinion.

By seeing a doctor, you can better understand what is going on and how to treat the problem in the future.

It's also important to see a doctor if another person is responsible for your injury. This will go a long way in putting you in better position to receive compensation. By taking legal action, you may be able to receive compensation for your injuries and other damages, such as lost wages.
