Worker dies after fatal accident in California

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a utility worker, local police have confirmed. The man, who worked for Southern California Edison, was killed in a fatal accident on Sept. 30. Police are still attempting to determine what caused the accident, and have not yet filed charges against the driver involved in the crash.

The accident report notes that the man, who was in his 50s, was working on the side of a road in Lancaster when a driver headed westbound lost control of his vehicle. The car struck the worker head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident when medical workers arrived.

The driver, who is believed to be in his 20s, needed to be extricated from his vehicle by the Jaws of Life. He was critically injured and was rushed to a local hospital, where his current condition is not currently known. Police do not believe the man was intoxicated at the time of the crash, but they are still investigating to determine why he lost control of his vehicle. The investigation is still ongoing as of this report.

The family of the deceased worker has grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit in response to this fatal accident, against not only the young driver but also any other individual listed as a record owner of the vehicle involved in the crash. In addition, California law also entitles the family to pursue a workers' compensation death benefit claim. Such a claim would be based upon insurance coverage provided, as required by law, by Southern California Edison for the benefit of its employees.
