One woman is dead following a serious collision on Interstate 15, according to local sources. The California Highway Patrol responded to the fatal accident just before noon on Sept. 22. So far, no charges have been filed in connection with this case, but the investigation is ongoing as of this report.
Apparently, around 11:13 a.m., a southbound dump truck sideswiped a passenger vehicle driven by a woman. The force of the collision caused the smaller vehicle to enter a spin before overturning multiple times. The female driver, 21, was ejected from the vehicle as it flipped, and she was rushed to a local hospital with injuries described as severe. She was pronounced dead later that day by medical authorities.
The condition of the male driver of the dump truck is unknown at this time. It is also unclear whether he remained at the scene of the accident. Police are still investigating the cause of the collision, but they have yet to file any charges against the dump truck driver for negligence or reckless driving.
Based on the early reports, it appears the dump truck driver may face further investigation since it was his lane change that precipitated the fatal accident. However, even if California authorities decline to file criminal charges against him, the family of the deceased woman still has the option to take the case to civil court. A wrongful death suit would require sufficient evidence that the dump truck driver contributed materially to the accident if damages are to be awarded by the court.
