2 dead in fatal car accident in California

Two people are tragically dead following a serious crash on Highway 1, which happened the afternoon of Sept. 16. California Highway Patrol has reported the fatal car accident killed two women. Police are still in the process of determining what caused the accident and have not filed charges in this case as of this report.

According to California Highway Patrol, a southbound pickup truck struck an SUV that was attempting to pull out onto the highway around 4:00 p.m. It is unclear at this time which driver was at fault for the collision. Both occupants of the SUV, a 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman, were pronounced dead.

The condition of the pickup truck driver is unknown at this time. Police have not yet spoken publicly on what they believe to have caused the crash. They have not ruled out negligence or recklessness on the part of either driver. They have not charged the surviving driver with a crime at this time.

Depending on the outcome of the California police investigation, the surviving driver may face criminal charges if it is determined that individual contributed in a material way to the fatal car accident. The families of the deceased individuals would also be able to file wrongful death suits, even if no criminal charges were brought against the driver. Contrarily, if the deceased driver is found to be at fault and the pickup truck driver sustained injuries in the crash, that individual could file personal injury charges against the deceased driver's estate and anyone with ownership interest in the SUV.
