Arrest made in hit and run pedestrian accident in California

| Jul 29, 2016 | Dog Bites |

Police have taken a man into custody whom they believe was responsible for a deadly accident. The man has been charged in relation to a fatal pedestrian accident. The accident took place as a man was crossing a California street and was struck.

The accident happened on a Thursday as an 88-year-old man was hit as he crossed the road. The truck that hit him fled the scene. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the accident to find the elderly man in the roadway with significant injuries. After he was medically stabilized, the man was transported to a local hospital. He died there due to the injuries he sustained.

The driver who fled the scene of the accident was arrested the next day by police. His truck was seized when he was taken into custody. He has been charged with hit and run causing injuries and also involuntary manslaughter. He is a 66 years old.

Once the criminal charges against this man are handled by authorities, the family of the man who died in this pedestrian accident may have legal options worth pursuing in a California civil court. One option may be to pursue a wrongful death suit. If successful, a wrongful death suit can help families contend with the financial strains which may result from losing their loved one due to another person’s alleged negligent actions. Some of those financial strains can include medical bills, lost wages, funeral costs and other financial losses directly related to the death of a loved one.
