Mother and daughter both lost in California pedestrian accident

A tragedy recently unfolded in California as a mother and daughter set out to walk the family pet. The pair fell victim to a deadly pedestrian accident. The accident happened around 8:20 p.m. on a Monday night.

The 31-year-old woman and her 69-year-old mother were walking their dog when all three were struck by an SUV as they tried to cross a street. The 31-year-old woman and her dog both died at the scene of the accident. The 69-year-old mother died at the hospital due to the injuries she sustained.

The driver stayed at the scene to assist investigators. The driver said the victims just weren't visible due to the darkness. Residents near the scene also told reporters the area is the scene of speeding and that traffic lights may be needed to ensure a safer intersection for crossing. A councilman in the area also suggested steps to be taken to make the area safer for crossing, including an increase in police presence to reduce the incidents of speeding in that particular area.

While it is yet to be proven if improper lighting or speeding caused this particular pedestrian accident, the incident has surely left a family reeling from such a compounded and unexpected tragedy. Families who lose loved ones due to pedestrian accidents in California may have options outside of the criminal court system. One option is to pursue civil action through filing a wrongful death suit. This can help struggling families alleviate the extra burden of funeral costs or medical bills that may have resulted from a fatal pedestrian accident.
