So much to live for

He was 26 years old when his life came to an abrupt end on a California highway. According to his obituary, the Navy veteran was studying to become an EMT was to have been married this past summer.

But he was crushed between two tractor-trailers a year ago, while riding as a passenger in a car. His father recently filed a lawsuit against the trucking company and its corporate parent, as well as against the truck driver.

On Dec. 19 of last year, the young man sat in the passenger seat of an Audi being driven north on Interstate 5. As the car slowed at 2 a.m. for a construction site, a tractor-trailer rig smashed into its back end. The Audi was crushed as the big rig slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler just ahead of the car.

The 26-year-old died at the scene of the violent collisions, while the Audi driver and driver of the first tractor-trailer both suffered major injuries.

The lawsuit alleges that the truck driver was fatigued at the time of the crash, driving too fast for conditions and that he ignored signs warning of the construction area. A newspaper report did not mention if the driver of the Audi has filed suit as well.

As we know, truck accidents far too often result in severe injuries and fatalities. Family members and injury victims can speak with San Diego attorneys experienced in negotiating favorable settlements with trucking companies and insurers. In some cases, vigorous litigation is required for full, fair compensation.
