Holiday behaviors can lead to tragic accidents

| Dec 17, 2015 | Wrongful Death |

In today’s post we continue talking about the various dangers that the holidays bring. Of course, this time of year is often a wonderful time for many. People get to see family members, make memories and take a break from work, not to mention receive a lot of presents.

But not every family is so fortunate. Throughout San Diego and the rest of the country, there are individuals who will unfortunately get injured or even die due to the negligence of another individual. One person’s fun night turns out to be another person’s nightmare.

Recently, a doctor listed some health concerns that come up during the holidays. While these health concerns can hurt the individual who carries out the various behaviors that lead to them, their behavior can also result in injury to others.

For example, a lot of people experience major stress and a lack of sleep over the holidays. This ongoing fatigue can cause individuals to hit the road half-awake. While it may seem like just another holiday shopping day to them, it can quickly become something a lot more tragic.

Similarly, there is an increase in drinking over the holidays. Alcohol is often tied to celebration. While no one is saying this is in itself a bad thing, it can quickly lead to devastation if a drunk individual decides to drive home after a holiday party.

In general, there are a lot of accidents over the holidays. The most common are car accidents and slip-and-fall accidents. There are about 15,000 holiday-related accidents that happen each year.

The holidays should be a time to celebrate and make lasting memories. This time of year shouldn’t have to be a time of grief due to the negligent acts of another individual.
