Southern CA biker killed in motorcycle accident

A man was recently killed in a tragic motorcycle accident near Palomar Mountain, California. The man, who lived in Oceanside, died at the scene after his bike collided with a car that made a left hand turn in front of him. California Highway Patrol officers are still investigating the crash, looking into whether anyone involved was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.

The accident happened just after midnight. It appears the motorcycle and passenger vehicle were traveling in the same direction when the motorcycle attempted to pass the car on the left. At that time, the car attempted to make a left hand turn and struck the motorcycle. The bike collided directly with the driver's side of the car, sending the biker air born off of his bike and skidding under the vehicle. The driver and passenger of the car were uninjured, but the biker was killed at the scene.

Although there is some concern that the cyclist may have contributed to the crash by attempting to pass the other vehicle, the accident serves as a reminder that drivers often have a difficult time gauging how fast oncoming motorcycles are traveling. This is especially dangerous in situations where a vehicle is attempting to turn left in front of a motorcycle. A miscalculation is often tragic for the biker, since the motorcycle lacks many of the protections available to the passengers in the car.

If drivers do not operate their vehicles with due care and injure another, the drivers may be held accountable for their actions. As a result, those injured in these accidents should contact a California motorcycle accident attorney to discuss their case and help better ensure any rights to compensation are protected.
