Questions remain after fatal 5-car crash south of Sacramento

A serious criminal investigation is underway in Lodi, California, after five people were killed in a tragic car crash last week. All five people were members of the same family, a man, a pregnant woman, and three young children - ages 11, 7 and 5. Another child, 9, was critically injured in the collision.

The family was riding in a pickup truck during rush hour when an SUV crashed into it in a busy intersection, according to a news report.

Three other cars were also involved in this crash, and a total of six people were hospitalized for their injuries. The driver of the SUV was one of them.

It has been reported by a witness that the driver of the SUV was observed speeding before the fatal car accident and weaving in and out of traffic. Police are also investigating reports that the driver may have been using his cellphone just before the collision, according to the Associated Press.

Investigations of multi-car accidents are usually very complicated, but it is important that they are thorough and complete in order to obtain answers and hold negligent drivers accountable.

Those who cause fatal accidents may face criminal charges as well as liability for wrongful death. Wrongful death claims can provide compensation to the loved ones of victims for funeral expenses, lost income and pain and suffering, among other costs.

The loved ones of victims of fatal car accidents in California should seek legal advice in order to learn how to seek justice.
