Funeral held for bride-to-be killed in boat crash

San Diego residents may have heard that today a funeral was held for a bride-to-be that was killed in a tragic boating accident on the East Coast Friday. The 30-year-old woman’s funeral took place at the church in which she was scheduled to be married Aug. 10.

The woman was one of two people killed in the fatal boating accident on the Hudson River. Her groom’s best man, 30, was also killed.

The groom was injured in the crash.

The incident took place when the powerboat crashed into a construction barge.

The operator of the boat has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and he has been accused of boating under the influence.  However, the parents of the bride have stated that they believe the barge was poorly lit at the time of the crash and that is what they think caused the accident.

According to the Coast Guard, the barge did have proper lighting.

Nonetheless, earlier this week it was reported that a complaint was filed in early July from an area resident complaining about a lack of barge lighting. The complaint was apparently forwarded to officials and the state.

In the aftermath of this tragedy, dozens of lights have been added to barges and other vessels in the area.

It will be critical for this case to be examined further so that the families of the victims can obtain answers. If it is true that the barge was not properly lit, those responsible may be held accountable for this tragedy. Fatal boating accident cases are often very complicated, but it is important to learn exactly what caused such accidents in order to hold responsible parties accountable, obtain compensation for the victims and their families and implement changes to prevent further accidents.
