One fatality in possible drunk driving crash with fire truck

Police are still investigating the causes behind a crash between a car and a San Diego fire engine that left the passenger in the car dead. An open bottle of alcohol was found in the vehicle after the accident so authorities are looking into whether or not alcohol or drugs were a factor in causing the accident.

The fire truck was heading east towards an emergency at 4 a.m. and had its overhead lights on when it entered an intersection and collided with the passenger side door of the car. The force of the impact pushed it into the light pole. The fire truck had the green light when it entered the intersection. None of the people inside the truck were injured and they rendered aid at the accident site while the paramedic behind them continued to the previous emergency.

Since the investigation into the causes of this accident is still underway, many questions remain about who is responsible for this crash and the untimely wrongful death of the passenger in the car.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and police will likely question him to find out about the circumstances surrounding the accident. Since the accident occurred between a car and an emergency vehicle responding to a call, the city will likely not be held liable for the damage, injuries, or the death of the passenger. On the other hand, if the driver was drunk at the time of the crash then he may be held responsible both criminally and civilly for the wrongful death.
