Boy killed in San Diego fishing boat accident

Last weekend, a father-son fishing trip ended in tragedy when the son fell off the boat and suffered serious injuries that ultimately resulted in his death. The boy was seven years old.

According to reports, the father and son had spent the afternoon fishing with the boy's uncle and a family friend and were returning to the dock in the San Diego Bay when the fatal accident occurred. When the boy's father jumped off the 20-foot fishing boat to assist with its docking, the boy fell in the water, either in an attempt to jump down to help his father or as the boat was backing up toward the dock.

Regardless of the reason, the driver of the boat did not realize that the boy had fallen in the water and continued to back up, hitting the boy with the engine's propeller and causing him to suffer serious injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him and he was declared dead just 30 minutes after the tragic accident occurred.

San Diego Harbor Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal accident. The boat was seized and examined to determine if malfunctions on the vessel were to blame for the crash.

Certainly, this is a tragic event for all involved, especially given the fact that it involved several members of one family. Depending on the circumstances of the crash, the boy's parents may decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver or manufacturer of the boat, if either is found to be at fault for the boy's death.
