The stepson of R&B singer Usher Raymond has reportedly passed away two weeks after suffering major injuries in a boating accident. The incident remains under investigation, and police have not yet determined whether the actions of the other party to the crash warrant criminal charges.

According to media reports, the boating accident occurred as the 11-year-old boy was at a lake in Georgia with family and friends. While being pulled behind a pontoon on a tube, the boy and a 15-year-old girl were run over by a man on a personal watercraft. The boy was unresponsive when pulled from the lake and was flown to a nearby hospital, where it was determined that he had suffered a major brain injury. He passed away of heart failure two weeks later. The status of the teen girl has not been announced.

Police say that the man who was on the personal watercraft had come to the lake as part of the boy’s group. Their relationship is unknown. It does not appear that alcohol was involved in the crash, but police continue to investigate to determine its cause and whether the man was at fault. In addition, the boy’s mother may decide to file a wrongful death or similar personal injury lawsuit against the man.

Although Usher and the boy’s mother had divorced, the singer remained close with his ex-wife’s children. The pair had previously been locked into a bitter court battle over the custody of the two children they had together, but that has reportedly ceased in the wake of the tragic death.
