Comic-Con fan killed in San Diego accident

Last week, San Diego's famed Comic-Con festival was the site of a tragic pedestrian accident that resulted in the death of a fan who had been waiting in line for a hotly anticipated panel for the final installment of the "Twilight" movie series.

According to media reports, the fatal accident occurred on Tuesday, after the 53-year-old woman had been waiting for more than two days. That afternoon, the staff of the convention center inexplicably decided to switch the order of the line and the woman, who was previously at the beginning of the line, found herself at the end.

Forced to run to keep her place in line, the woman was crossing a street, against a red light but in a crosswalk. One oncoming vehicle stopped for the woman, but a second was unable to slow in time. The woman also attempted to slow down in order to avoid being struck by the car, but she tripped and fell into the side of the vehicle.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she passed away. The cause of her death is not known, but witnesses said that she was 'bleeding profusely from her head' when she was placed into the ambulance.

It is not yet clear who was at fault for the fatal accident. One possibility is the driver of the car, although police reports indicate that he had a green light and therefore had no duty to stop for the woman. In addition, it could be found that the convention center's decision to reorganize the line motivated the woman to run across the road and, therefore, caused her death. It remains to be seen whether investigators come to either of these conclusions.
