Police officers are still investigating the Chula Vista car accident that killed one area teenager and injured six others on Saturday. At about 5:15 p.m., the driver of a sedan carrying the teenager lost control of the vehicle and crossed the line into oncoming traffic.
The car struck a van before slamming into a ravine alongside the road and bursting into blames.
Investigators are still piecing together the exact circumstances of the fatal car accident. At this point, no charges have been filed against any of the individuals involved. No word yet on whether or not alcohol or distraction may have contributed to the accident.
Police have not released the names of the other six victims involved in the car accident and it is not known what condition any of them are in or if any remain in the hospital.
It wasn’t the only accident in San Diego County this past weekend. In a second collision, this one on Sunday, two people were sent to the hospital with injuries following an accident near the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park.
Both cars were traveling in the same direction, when the driver of the second car rear-ended the first. The front end of the car traveling in the rear was completely crushed, though the injuries sustained are not believed to be life-threatening.
