Southern California offers beautiful weather and plentiful areas to enjoy the water. From paddle boarding and surfing to fishing and riding fast in motor boats, residents and tourists alike can find fun activities in the water. In an attempt to help keep everyone safe, various rules and regulations are put in place. Those who violate these rules can face steep monetary fines. In some cases, violations could even lead to tragic accidents.

Truck accidents on the rise throughout the U.S.

Truck accidents are receiving serious scrutiny by the media. Although the catalyst for these stories may have been the truck accident involving famous comedian Tracy Morgan of 30 Rock and SNL fame, reporters are stumbling on some troubling data as they put these stories together. It appears Tracy Morgan's story is not rare. In fact, according to a recent report by NBC News there were approximately 3,921 fatalities connected to truck accidents in 2012 alone. In addition, these accidents are increasing. According to the same report the rate of accidents involving commercial trucks was up almost 20 percent between the years of 2009 and 2012.

Man sentenced in dog mauling that killed California toddler

A California man was recently sentenced for crimes in connection to a fatal mauling of a toddler involving three pit bulls. The man was caring for the 2 year-old, who was his step grandson, when the incident occurred. A local CBS affiliate, CBS 8, reported that the man had separated his five pit bulls from the area he was using to care for the child, keeping the dogs in the garage. The young child was left unsupervised and wandered to the garage. The boy somehow entered the area where the dogs were kept and was fatally attacked, reportedly by only three of the five dogs. Details from the investigation note the young boy received over 100 dog bites.

Coast Guard: boating accidents on the rise

Two vehicles crashing together is a dangerous event, but the dangers are even greater when these accidents occur on the water. Boating accidents can be tragic since in addition to injuries connected to the crash itself victims could also face the danger of drowning while awaiting assistance. Although a variety of measures are taken to reduce the risk of boating accidents, the United States Coast Guard recently reported that these accidents are on the rise.

San Diego may see record number of deadly hit and runs in 2014

As of June, 2014, San Diego County already has 11 fatal pedestrian or bicyclist hit and run accidents on record. According to a recent report by the Voice of San Diego, that number is already one higher than previous yearly averages. Seeing as we're only half way through the year, 2014 is likely to be a record breaking year.
