Pedestrian accident takes life of woman in California

The decision to cross the street proved to be fatal for one woman recently. The woman was crossing the street in Los Angeles, California, when she was struck and fatally injured in a pedestrian accident. The woman was 57 years old.

The accident happened just before midnight, around 11:40 p.m., on a Sunday. After the woman was struck, the driver of the car that hit her fled the scene of the collision. A passerby stopped and called for medical help for the victim. Despite the calls for medical help, the woman died at the scene of the accident.

Authorities initially believed the woman was hit by more than one vehicle. However, they later said it was a one-vehicle pedestrian accident. The driver who hit her and then fled later surrendered to the police. He was an 18-year-old man and has been charged with a felony hit and run charge. An investigation into this accident resulted in the road being closed for several hours.

Once the driver faces his criminal charges related to the aftermath of this pedestrian accident in court, the family of the woman who lost her life may have the option to evidence from his trial to pursue a civil action against the man. If they so choose and an investigation or criminal case concludes the driver's negligent actions led to the death of the woman, the family left behind may have grounds for a wrongful death suit in a California civil court. This kind of legal maneuver can lead to the awarding of damages that can prove useful and beneficial as a family deals with medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages and other expenses related to the untimely death of a loved one.
