Police seeking information about fatal bicycle accident

A bicyclist has passed away after an incident along a roadway. The police in the California town where the incident occurred are seeking information about what exactly happened and what may have led to the bicycle accident. The accident happened on a recent Wednesday morning on a downhill stretch of a road that has proven to be a contentious spot for drivers and bicyclists in the past.

There is security camera footage of a pickup truck following the bicyclist closely then going out of sight from the cameras. The bicyclist was then found on the ground. He was taken to an area hospital with what was reported to be serious head injuries even though he was wearing a helmet.

The 69-year-old bicyclist died from his injuries. A pickup driver told a group of cyclists that another bicyclist was injured, and members of that cycling group then called 9-1-1. The pickup driver then left the scene of the accident before any authorities came to assist. About two weeks previous to this incident, there was another incident with a similar pickup truck, where the driver purportedly shouted at a another group of cyclists because he was angry at them for taking up space on the road. Police are seeking any information about both incidents from the public.

Once police discover who was driving the pickup, and if it can be proven his reckless driving caused the bicycle accident, the family of the man who died may have cause to file civil action. That family may be able to pursue a wrongful death suit in a California civil court. If successful, that suit could lead to monetary damages for the family left behind as they deal with any monetary losses in addition to the emotional loss suffered after the death of their loved one.
