The deadly hazards of methylene chloride exposure

Workers in many industries often work with chemicals that they know very little about. Unless they are specifically trained and carefully monitored by their employers and managers, workers can suffer serious injury, illness or death due to hazardous chemical exposure.

Powerful lessons on distracted driving hit home for teenagers

Adults have long been lamenting the idea that students can no longer seem to pay attention in school. Critics argue that a standard lesson taught verbally by a teacher is no match (in terms of entertainment value) for the smartphones, tablets and televisions kids are exposed to daily.

New pact between DOT, automakers: conducive to safety or not?

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx voiced his ardent approval recently of a new agreement reached between his agency and a broad consortium of automobile manufacturers. He called it "a strong stand in favor a new approach ... that leans heavily on being proactive and less heavily on being reactive."

Understanding new safety data on self-driving vehicles - Part II

In a recent post, we began a discussion about data that was recently released regarding the safety and efficiency of self-driving vehicles. We noted that the California Department of Motor Vehicles asked Google and six other companies to disclose information about these vehicles generally and about the need for trained drivers to take the wheel due to safety issues or technical failures specifically.

Understanding new safety data on self-driving vehicles - Part I

Californians tend to be trend setters, whether they mean to be or not. When Californians become brave enough to try new sports, new styles, new laws and new ways of living, one area of the country or another almost inevitably follows suit. One of the latest trends that California has birthed is the trend of creating self-driving vehicle models. Although many of the nation’s large automakers are now creating prototypes of these vehicles and are studying their construction and production, California-based Google “drove” there first.

Where to turn for an accident involving a truck

They are behemoths, you can't see around them, you can't see the exit signs coming up ahead, sometimes they drift in and out of lanes with the same attention span a coloring 3-year old gives to lines. When a truck shares the roadway with you, it often feels like they share as well as a 3-year old, too. If you or a loved one was hurt by a truck or other commercial vehicle, you may need serious medical care, rehabilitation, and psychiatric therapy. Additionally, the accident may have destroyed your vehicle and caused you to miss work. The truck accident may have done far worse, and the consequences may be life altering.

Pedestrians struck in separate incidents minutes and miles apart

It is always difficult to hear and grasp the extreme sorrow and distress of a horrific accident, but it may be even more difficult to process when the accident occurs over the holidays. For an unusual sort of accident to happen twice in one night, to two separate people, within minutes and miles of each other is beyond senseless. Yet, that is just what happened this December on a stretch of East and West Vista Way, only 4 miles and six minutes apart. Both victims were taken to the same hospital. The coincidence itself seems to merit investigation as to causation.
