San Diego Boat Show an opportunity to discuss boating safety

San Diego's International Boat Show was a hit. The president of South Coast Yachts told Boating Magazine that the show was "the best we've had in years." Numbers are coming in to back this statement. The magazine further reported this year's show had a 24 percent increase from 2013, bringing in 7,640 visitors.

Many of the show's guests weren't just window shopping, vendors report leaving the show with signed contracts and purchase agreements. The success of the show provides an opportunity to review some basic safety tips to help reduce involvement in a boating accident.

One of the most common tips to help reduce the risk of an accident is to watch the amount of alcohol consumed while operating a water craft. Sun, water and booze can lead to trouble, especially since time in the sun can lead to dehydration. Pair this with too much alcohol and a driver attempting to operate a boat could have a reduced reaction time. The inability to react safely to conditions on the water, including avoiding impact with other boats, paddle borders, surfers and swimmers, could lead to tragic accidents.

Those involved in boating accidents may be able to seek compensation to help cover the cost associated with the crash. Boaters, jet skiers, SCUBA divers and others who may be injured by the reckless conduct of another should discuss their options with a San Diego boating accident lawyer. If alcohol was involved, or other "rules of the water" were violated, this legal professional may be able to help you receive the compensation you are entitled to.
