CHP: I-15 rollover crash that injured 3 may be a hit-and-run

When motor vehicle accidents happen, a lot of questions need to be answered. That's especially true if someone was injured or killed and the apparent wrongful death was the result of another driver's reckless or negligent actions.

Victims of such wrecks or their loved ones have a right to hold those responsible accountable and to seek compensation. But they have to be able to make the case for a civil claim.

Police have the task of investigating such crashes, to be sure, but the volume of cases they have to deal with may result in something being overlooked.

Getting to the bottom of things, assembling and packing the evidence in a way that can be presented successfully in court are reasons why an attorney with experience in this area of law should always be consulted.

A fiery rollover crash in Interstate 15 Saturday perhaps offers an example of what we mean. According to the California Highway Patrol, a sport utility vehicle carrying three people went off the road at about 10:30 that morning near Old Highway 395, rolled and caught fire. One of the three individuals was ejected from the vehicle. All three were reported injured and hospitalized.

While it appeared to be a one-vehicle crash, authorities say they believe it may have been a matter of hit-and-run. They say they're looking for some type of black truck in connection with the accident.

A CHP spokesman says that what is suspected is that the black truck and another vehicle were making lane changes and that the driver of the SUV swerved to avoid a collision. In the process of doing that, the SUV hit a rock on the shoulder of the road and that caused the vehicle to flip.

At this point, it's unclear if police have any leads on finding the suspected trigger vehicle.
