San Diego man injured in motorcycle hit-and-run

One person was injured and an unknown number of people fled the scene after a car clipped a motorcycle on the highway near San Diego.

Authorities believe that illegal racing on I-5 may have been the cause of an accident that left a Sand Diego man in the hospital recently. Witnesses who spoke with police said that either two or three cars appeared to be racing down the highway when one of them clipped the motorcycle, causing the rider to be thrown from the bike. The people in the vehicles who were involved in the race fled the scene immediately, leaving the victim and his wrecked motorcycle on the road.

The victim is in stable condition but may have suffered from serious injuries as a result of the accident. Local news footage showed him in a neck brace, which is standard procedure for emergency responders and hopefully does not indicate that he has suffered from a neck or spinal cord injury. Police temporarily closed southbound lanes on the area of the highway where the accident took place.

Racing on public roads is not only illegal and dangerous, but is generally considered to be reckless activity in the context of a personal injury lawsuit. Drivers who behave recklessly in a way that puts others at significant risk of injury or death are liable for their actions, and victims have a right to seek justice and compensation from them. Compensation can include the costs of medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and other similar financial losses that resulted from the accident.
