Singer's stepson succumbs to boat accident injuries

The stepson of R&B singer Usher Raymond has reportedly passed away two weeks after suffering major injuries in a boating accident. The incident remains under investigation, and police have not yet determined whether the actions of the other party to the crash warrant criminal charges.

Crash deaths rise in first quarter of 2012

According to recent data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the first quarter of 2012 saw a significant increase in car accident deaths in comparison to the same time period in 2011. The NHTSA is not yet sure of the reason for the unprecedented jump, but it points toward additional data indicating a coordinating increase in the number of miles driven during the time period in question.

California receives federal funds to fight distracted driving

The state of California is set to receive about $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation in order to fight distracted driving in the state. Under the "Phone in One Hand, Ticket in the Other" campaign, one California metro area will pilot an enhanced distracted driving awareness and enforcement program, including media saturation and increased police enforcement.

San Diego students petition for sentence in fatal car accident

The friends of a San Diego graduate student who was killed in a hit-and-run car accident earlier this year have started a movement. The friends are seeking to have the driver in that crash sentenced to jail, instead of to probation as is currently being considered by the California judge presiding over the case.
