Two teens involved in Ramona accident, one seriously injured

A car accident can happen in the blink of an eye. Just ask the parents of a 17-year-old California boy whose vehicle struck a boulder and flipped last Sunday night. One moment, the boy was simply riding along Vista Vince Drive in Ramona, but soon after he was in critical condition at a local hospital. So far no further information is available regarding his condition, but reports show that the victim suffered an injury to his head.

The 17-year-old boy was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the car accident. The vehicle's 16-year-old driver was able to walk away from the collision relatively uninjured. Besides sustaining a few scrapes and bruises, the driver did not require further medical attention. The passenger's condition, however, was a different story.

Reports indicate that the injured passenger was rescued from the vehicle by a Good Samaritan. By the time the Fire Department arrived at the scene of the accident, the 17-year-old boy had been already been pulled out of the rolled-over car by the passing pedestrian.

Paramedic reports from the crash site indicate that the victim's head injury was severe enough to cause the boy to occasionally lose consciousness. Head injuries can be very serious and may lead to brain damage, partial paralysis, or memory loss.

Investigators believe that the driver hit the boulder after swerving to avoid an animal in the road. A similar accident occurred in the same area at the beginning of the month and local police officers have warned drivers to keep an eye out for animals in the roadway.
