Poison lead singer sues CBS and Tonys over head injury

Every year, the Tony Awards honor Broadway's best and brightest. Musicians, dancers, and a number of other performers often pay tribute to the leaders of song and dance with musical numbers of their own. However, during the 2009 Tony Awards, one of these performances ended in tragedy for Poison lead singer Bret Michaels.

Michaels suffered a serious head injury six months after a large stage prop knocked him over the head while trying to exit the stage after Poison's performance. Last Friday, the rock singer filed a lawsuit against both CBS and Tony Award Productions, alleging that producers from the two companies neglected to warn him about the dangers he would face leaving the stage after the routine.

According to Michaels' lawsuit, he made sure to ask producers if there were certain places that he should not stand during the performance, but the producers only instructed him to exit via the rear of the stage.

However, while exiting the set, Michaels was struck by a sign coming down from the ceiling. Michaels is claiming that producers had every opportunity to warn him about the descending stage prop but failed to do so and, therefore, compromised his safety.

On the day of the accident, Michaels was diagnosed with a fractured nose and a split lit. However, six months later, doctors discovered a subarachnoid hemorrhage in the rocker's brain. Doctors were eventually able to control the bleeding, but Michael's lawsuit asserts that the injury nearly killed him.

According to the Poison lead singer, CBS and Tony Award Productions have attempted to claim that the accident was his fault. Now that Michaels has officially filed his suit, it will be up to the Los Angeles Superior Court system to decide if the rocker's near-fatal accident could have been prevented by the show's producers.
