Car Accident on I-805 Results in Two Traffic Fatalities

An auto accident occurring last week on Interstate 805 claimed two lives and resulted in serious injuries for two other passengers in the car. The accident reportedly occurred when the 20-year-old driver attempted to take the Route 94 connector and lost control of the vehicle causing it to drive off the ramp and roll over multiple times.

Both the driver, and one of the passengers, a 21-year-old woman, were thrown from the vehicle and reportedly died at the scene of the accident. The other two passengers, both 21-year-old women, suffered injuries considered not life-threatening, but still required hospitalization. Authorities have not released the names of any of the victims.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the two surviving passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash while both the driver and the other ejected passenger were not wearing them when the car rolled over.

At this time, authorities are not sure what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. It is not believed that any other cars were involved. Toxicology tests will be performed to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

It is far too early to draw any conclusions with the information available, but all too often situations such as this result in fatal auto accidents when a combination of factors culminate in a dangerous situation for a young driver.

Although mechanical difficulties cannot yet be ruled out, factors such as the driver's young age, and the fact that the accident occurred around 1 a.m. in the morning with four young people in the vehicle at the time, will likely lead investigators to question whether speed, a lack of driving experience, or distracted driving were contributing factors in the accident.
