San Diego Man Suffers Burns After Motorcycle Accident

Last Monday, a Riverside County man was hospitalized with severe injuries, including severe burns to his entire body, from a weekend motorcycle accident on State Route 76 in the Pala area. The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday when 60-year-old Martin Davidoff's 2002 Yamaha motorcycle collided with the rear of a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pickup had been stopped in the middle of traffic near Magee Road when the motorcycle collided with the truck.

Officials at the scene reported that the gas tank of the motorcycle broke open releasing fuel onto the accident scene and onto Mr. Davidoff. Shortly after, a fire ignited the leaking fuel, setting both the motorcycle and Mr. Davidoff on fire. Witnesses to the accident rushed over to assist the victim from underneath the burning motorcycle. Interestingly, a local Pala police officer happened to be near the scene with a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

After officials were able to safety remove Mr. Davidoff from the accident scene, he was airlifted to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego. Upon arrival he was admitted in serious condition.

The driver of the pickup truck, 33-year-old Elizabeth Osuna of Santa Ysabel, was uninjured in the accident. Investigators are still looking for witnesses of the crash. If you have any information regarding this motorcycle accident, call the CHP's Oceanside office at (760) 757-1675.
